Learning UX + Web Design.

So I'm a programmer. I'm a software developer. I'm a coder.

But I'm no designer. I never studied design. My ability extends so far as to know when something sucks, or when something doesn't suck as much.

That's why I focus on U.X, aka, User Experience. U.X design is all about how well your website is to use for... well, users. This can be simplified to how intuitive and easy it is for someone to understand and navigate your site, despite only visiting it for the first time.

Studies show that when you compare a seamless user experience to a flashy award winning design, U.X converts users into customers more than design. Most of the time people who click on a website with the intent to buy something or use a service want it to be a fast and hassle free experience. They don't want crazy animations flying all over the page or your scrolling forced from vertical or horizontal.

And so here at Birchgrove Web Designs we focus on UX/UI when we create websites. Some animations, a hover here, a fade in there, but nothing outrageous that would confuse anyone who stumbles onto our site. Less is more, I say.

So when it comes to making web pages, the design is the challenging part. But it's also the fun part. Because really, its where you CREATE the website, as opposed to making the website. But if you don't have that creative flair, then your websites tend to come out flat or plain and you just can't put your finger on it.

And I've realised I desperately need to find a designer to work with.
